Blogging in Apostrophe

  • 0

The blogging platform we have built in Apostrophe is a way to share news, articles and blog posts around your website. We call this "dynamic content." Dynamic Content, in Apostrophe, is content that is created once, but can automatically be viewed and updated in different places on your site. Events and media are also dynamic content.

Creating a Blog Post:

There are two ways you can start writing articles, from the blog admin (in the top global tool bar) or from a blog page. In these places you will see a button to add a new post. You can craft your blog posts the same way you create any Apostrophe page. Add slots for text, images, videos, forms, etc.

On the left you'll notice a box with some options not available on most pages. Here's the breakdown:

    • blog tools

Status - This lets you choose to publish the post, keep it as a draft or schedule the post to be published. The default      setting is a draft. You will be able to access drafts in the blog admin. Scheduling a post allows you to back date the post, or set it to automatically publish in the future.

Author -  If you are working with other people on your site, their user names will appear in this dropdown. You can change the author to any user with the privelidges to edit the blog.

Categories - Allows you to categorize the post.

Tags - Allows you to add specific tags to the post.

Preview - Gives you a glimpse of what the published post will look like.

Creating Multiple Blogs:

If you want to create multiple blogs on your website, for example one about news and one about your cat, you can use the categories functionality. When you create a new a new blog post, be sure to categorize what kind of post you're writing.

To create a page for your news:

  • Add a new page
  • Choose "Blog"
  • Choose the category "news"
    • add a blog page

To create a page for your cat blog, do the same steps as above, except choose "cat" instead of "news" as your category. If you don't pick a category, the page will pull in all published blog posts. You can select a page to pull in posts from mulitple categories.

Placing blog posts on the home page, or other default pages:

To place just a few blog posts around your site, use the blog slot. Available in the Add Content drop down areas, the blog slot lets you choose how many posts you would like to display and which categories to pull from.
