Apostrophe Now! : Create A Mailing list using Wufoo and Mailchimp

Creating a mailing list on your Apostrophe site is easy! In fact, if you watch the demo below, you can see it only takes a minute.

If you are planning on sending email updates to a long mailing list, you will definitely want to use a mailing service like Mailchimp. Email services let you create snazzy emails, track how many people are reading the emails you're sending, and keep your email addresses nicely organized. Trust us, blasting a mass email from your inbox is not the best way to reach your audience. If you haven't already done so, set up an account with Mailchimp.

Wufoo is a service that lets you create beautiful forms and surveys. It keeps track of all the responses, integrates with many services, and allows you to dress it up anyway you'd like. Apostrophe comes with a Wufoo slot for you to embed any Wufoo form on your website.

So, how does it all work together? I'm glad you asked. To create a form to collect email addresses and add them to a neat list ready for email blasting, you'll need a Wufoo account and a Mailchimp account. Here are the steps to email list bliss:

Create a new form in Wufoo. (The title of the form will appear on your website, so give it a descriptive name!) Use the "fancy pants" fields to collect names and email addresses. Use the other fields to collect any additional information. Save the form.
Set up email notifications, choose "to another application" and pick Mailchimp from the drop down list.
Grab your Mailchimp API key from your Mailchimp account (under the Accounts menu).
Follow the instructions in Wufoo to choose which lists you want your emails added to.
When you're finished, go back to your forms. Click "code" under the form you want to embed on your website. Choose "embed form code" and copy the Java Script version of the code.
Log in to your Apostrophe site. Add a Wufoo slot, paste in the Java Script code from Wufoo.
You're done and ready for people to enter in their emails!
